Welcome to Westerveld Cemetery & Crematorium

Westerveld is not only one of the oldest privately run cemeteries in the Netherlands, but was also the country’s first crematorium. Our extensive range of services is highly tailored to individual wishes. Before, after and during the ceremony. The options are pretty much unlimited.

The cemetery will be 125 years old this year and it is also exactly 100 years ago that Westerveld Crematorium became the first crematorium in the Netherlands. The memorial park plans various special commemorative events throughout the year to highlight these anniversaries. On Sunday 2 June, for instance, there is the special anniversary edition of the Concerto in Memoriam. Please visit our website for more information.

One unique feature is ‘Villa Westerveld’. This monumental building (1866) contains ‘homely’ visiting rooms that can be attended 24 hours a day.

Prior to a ceremony, the next of kin and other visitors are received in the comfortable reception area. Adjoining this is a special family room for close relatives. Westerveld has three auditoriums, including the ‘Dudokzaal’, built in 1936 by Dudok, and the Marius Poelzaal, which was decorated in 1913 in the Art Deco style.

The ceremony can be planned entirely according to an individual’s personal wishes. There is room for religion, culture, (live) music and even dance. Just as you like it.

Naturally coffee and cake and/or sandwiches can be provided, but there is much more. From sushi or a tapas buffet to rare cheeses with the deceased’s favourite wine – (almost) anything is possible. Next of kin and visitors are welcome in the Petit Café Westerveld, but so are passers-by – a truly unique place!

In terms of the final destination of the ashes, Westerveld has a great deal to offer. There are urns, jewellery and memorials in all styles and materials. The memorial park has columbaria, urn graves, the urn garden and various scattering areas.

We can provide you with all the information you require to hire and design a grave. For example, grave stones in many styles and materials, and grave planting, including layout and maintenance.

Westerveld, nestled in a green and undulating area of dunes, possesses a unique monumental charm. Not only a cherished last resting place, but also a favourite with walkers.

There are many options for either burial or cremation. For more information, or to make an appointment, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We would be delighted to help!
