To put together the funeral of your loved one entirely in accordance with your own wishes, Westerveld has a special auditorium for funerals.
This auditorium can seat 165 guests. It has an organ and a piano for playing live music. But you may also use the professional sound system, for playing the favourite music of the deceased, for instance.
There is a separate family room where next of kin can meet before the ceremony. Other visitors take their place directly in the auditorium. But it is entirely up to you how the service is put together – music, a poem, songs, speeches? The room is hired for forty-minute slots, but this is easily extended if you wish. We like to hear your wishes in advance and are keen to advise you on the content of the ceremony and the options.
After the service
At the end of a ceremony, the coffin is carried to the grave. At the grave, the coffin is left above ground for a little while so guests can pass by and offer their last respects. The coffin can also be ‘lowered’ in the presence of guests so they can cast a handful of earth or a flower on it if they wish. Music may be played by the grave, but a farewell speech or prayer is of course also an option.
On the day of the funeral, we aim for our service to be as efficient as possible, which is why we are so keen that you inform us of your wishes and plans in detail. That might relate to speakers, to music or to the catering afterwards.
